Verdict in Frankfurt terror trial set for Jan 19

A Frankfurt court says it expects to deliver a verdict next month in the case of an Islamic extremist who has admitted killing two U.S. airmen at the Frankfurt airport earlier this year.

The Frankfurt state court on Monday announced that it expected to deliver its verdict on Jan. 19.

Arid Uka, a 21-year-old ethnic Albanian from Kosovo, faces a possible life in prison if convicted of two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder.

German authorities say he became radicalized reading and viewing Islamist material on the Internet, and he has testified he was trying to stop U.S. servicemen from going to Afghanistan.

Though he admitted to the March 2 shootings as the trial opened, under German law all evidence still has to be presented in court.
