The new U.S. envoy on North Korean affairs says he hopes for another round of talks between Washington and Pyongyang.
But Glyn Davies said Thursday that the United States is "not interested in talks for talks' sake." He didn't elaborate.
He says North Korea should take steps toward nuclear disarmament if it wants to reopen long-stalled international aid-for-disarament negotiations. Davies spoke to reporters after meeting with senior South Korean diplomats in Seoul.
Washington and Pyongyang have held two rounds of talks since July on ways to resume six-nation nuclear disarmament negotiations.
Pyongyang said last month that it had made rapid progress on efforts to enrich uranium.
