Uruguayan coach's wife hit with corrosive liquid

Police in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo say the wife of national soccer coach Oscar Tabarez was attacked with a corrosive liquid that burned her face and arms.

Police spokesman Jose Luis Roldan says authorities have not uncovered any clear motive or detained any suspects in the attack Saturday on 61-year-old Silvia Martinez, whose condition was unknown.

Police said earlier that Martinez was attacked by two men who threw the liquid at her as they passed by on a motorcycle.

Several days ago, authorities released a former female employee of Tabarez who was arrested in December for allegedly swindling $500,000 from the coach. The employee's lawyer was quoted by a local newspaper as saying she had nothing to do with Saturday's attack.
