Iran has summoned Bahrain's top diplomat in the country to protest over allegations that a terror cell uncovered in the tiny island nation has links to Tehran.
State TV said on Monday that an Iranian foreign ministry official held talks with the Bahraini charge d'affaires and strongly rejected any ties between Iran and the terror cell in Bahrain.
Bahrain's public prosecutor alleged earlier in November that the cell planned attacks on the Saudi Embassy in the Bahraini capital Manama and a Gulf causeway linking Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
Bahrain's Sunni rulers claim Shiite powerhouse Iran seeks to widen its influence in the region by supporting the island's Shiites in the unrest _ a charge Iran denies.
Bahrain's majority Shiites insist they have no political links to Iran.
