Obama visits memorial to Australian soldiers

President Barack Obama is beginning his second day in Australia with a visit to a war memorial to Australian soldiers who have been killed in conflict.

Joined by Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Obama entered the majestic domed memorial that houses a tomb to an unknown soldier. The president laid a wreath at the memorial and participated in a minute of silence.

Obama is addressing the Australian Parliament on Thursday, where he plans to discuss the intention of the United States to stay invested across Asia and Australia despite budget cuts back home.

On Wednesday, the president announced the U.S. would send military aircraft and up to 2,500 Marines to northern Australia for a training hub to help allies and protect U.S. interests across Asia.
