Jordanian Embassy in Damascus attacked

A Jordanian official says his country's embassy in Damascus was attacked after Jordan's king criticized the Syrian president's violent crackdown on eight months of protests.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Kayed says about 100 demonstrators gathered outside the embassy on Monday after King Abdullah II told the BBC that Bashar Assad should step down.

Three protesters scaled the embassy fence and took down the Jordanian flag, Kayed said on Tuesday. He said that no one entered the embassy, nor were there any injuries.

Kayed refused to comment on whether Jordan would withdraw its ambassador as called for by the Arab League.

Multiple embassies in Damascus were attacked after the League voted Saturday to suspend Syria's membership.
