State-run media in Myanmar say a land mine went off in a house as someone was demonstrating how to arm the explosive device. Ten people are dead and another 23 wounded after the blast in restive Kachin state.
It was not clear if Sunday's blast in Myitkyina, Kachin's capital, was linked to the unrest there. The New Light of Myanmar newspaper reported Tuesday that the explosion was so strong it damaged two other houses nearby.
Kachin is home to one of several minority ethnic rebel armies that say they are fighting for greater autonomy against Myanmar's repressive military. Fresh fighting between the 8,000-strong Kachin militia and government troops erupted in June.
Residents near the explosion say it occurred at a house where many young people lived.
