A 14-year-old Australian boy has tearfully admitted he bought marijuana on Indonesia's resort island of Bali, telling judges he was sorry and would never do so again.
The boy, who cannot be identified because of his age, made the comments Friday in a hearing at the Denpasar District Court.
He faces up to 12 years in prison if found guilty of buying 3.6 grams (0.13 ounces) of marijuana while vacationing in Bali with his parents and a friend last month.
Under the country's strict narcotics law, a minor can evade prison and undergo rehabilitation if he can prove a history of drug use.
Prosecutors said the boy, from Morrisset Park, Australia, broke down in tears while telling judges he had tried to quit using marijuana several times but failed.
