Argentina judge: Bus driver in crash had earphones

An investigating judge in Argentina says witnesses report that the driver of a bus carrying students and teachers was listening to music over earphones when he crossed in front of a train.

The crash Wednesday killed six schoolgirls and two teachers and injured 35 people.

Judge Mirtha Esley tells channel C5N that survivors say the driver had on earphones. It is illegal in Argentina for anyone to use earphones while driving.

The judge also quotes survivors as saying the driver jumped from the bus to save himself and left his passengers behind. He is in police custody.

A mother reports that her hospitalized girl says passengers shouted at the driver to warn him a train was coming before he drove onto the tracks.
