Kenya's security minister says the country is tightening overall security, especially along its long border with Somalia, after the recent kidnapping of two westerners by a Somali militia.
George Saitoti said Monday that all speed boats and merchant ships will have to be inspected by immigration officers and customs officials before entering Kenya.
Saitoti says that any speed boat which disobeys orders to stop by Kenyan security personnel will be "disabled."
He says two navy officers were lost at sea when a speed boat they were in capsized as they pursued militants from Somalia who had kidnapped a disabled French woman at the Kenyan coast on Saturday. The kidnapping came less than a month after a British woman was kidnapped at a resort near Lamu.
