A judge says that a former British spymaster will help rule on the case of a suspected Russian agent who is fighting her deportation from the U.K.
Justice John Mitting said Thursday that former domestic intelligence boss Stephen Lander will join him on the three-member panel to decide whether to expel 26-year-old Katia Zatuliveter, a former parliamentary researcher accused of working for Russia's secret services.
Zatuliveter hasn't been charged with a crime and is fighting an order sending her back to Russia.
It isn't unusual for British tribunals to include nonlegal experts as judges. But a spokesman at Britain's Judicial Communications Office said he didn't know whether a former spy chief had ever served in such a capacity.
