A top Australian official says the country is not nervous about China's rising power despite the government's launching of an in-depth review of Asia's growing influence.
The review will examine the benefits and risks of China's and India's rapidly growing power, and the economic, political and strategic impacts of Asia's growth. The results of the inquiry will be released in mid-2012.
Trade Minister Craig Emerson denied Thursday that the inquiry was a sign that Australia was concerned about China's growing global influence.
Emerson told Australian Broadcasting Corp. Radio that Australia is simply telling China it wants to deepen the countries' relationship.
