Jamaica prime minister asks reporters for patience

Jamaica's prime minister says he will give a more detailed explanation of his decision to resign sometime after his mother's funeral.

Prime Minister Bruce Golding says he must first bury his mother, Enid, who recently died at age 91. Her burial is Wednesday.

Golding asked journalists on Tuesday to have a little patience in pressing him to talk about his resignation. In his words: "I have just come from the funeral home where I took the last ring off my mother. Bear with me a little bit."

The governing Jamaica Labor Party announced Sunday that Golding will resign once the party picks a new leader.

The 63-year-old Golding had been expected to lead his party into the 2012 general elections. He has been prime minister since 2007.
