Thousands of Malawians have attended the funeral of a student activist whose death has raised suspicions amid attacks on anti-government critics.
Police say Robert Chasowa, 25, jumped from a five-story building on Saturday and left a note saying he was killing himself because politics are dangerous.
However, Chasowa's family and fellow activists say his injuries are not consistent with such a fall. They ask why he suffered only head injuries and no fractured limbs.
His sister also said there was a hole under his chin indicating he had been stabbed.
His funeral Monday follows unprecedented anti-government demonstrations in July. Three properties belonging to human rights and opposition leaders who organized the protests were fire-bombed.
