Palestinian man convicted of stabbing US tourist

Israeli authorities have convicted a Palestinian man of killing an American woman last December in a forest near Jerusalem.

Kristine Luken, 44, was stabbed to death while hiking with a friend. Prosecutors say her attackers believed Luken, a Christian missionary, was Jewish.

Kifah Ghneimat, one of three suspects in the killing, is the first to be convicted in the case.

Authorities say he was the leader of a crime ring with a long history of violence.

In Sunday's ruling, Ghneimat was convicted of two counts of murder, as well as causing grave bodily harm, illegally entering Israel from the West Bank, breaking and entry, burglary, weapons trafficking, car theft and three counts of attempted murder.

He is to be sentenced in November.
