Australian customs officers strike causing delays

Thousands of international air travelers are facing delays at Australian airports due to a strike by customs workers.

Customs and Border Protection officers walked off the job at airports across Australia on Tuesday in a protest over stalled pay negotiations. The work stoppages lasted up to two hours.

Customs and Border Protection spokeswoman Roxanne Kelley says the agency is trying to minimize disruptions, but delays are unavoidable.

The Community and Public Sector Union that represents the workers has rejected a 9 percent pay rise over three years. Union Secretary Nadine Flood says there could be more strikes if Customs fails to offer a better deal.
