Mexico's small Green Party says it will support leading presidential hopeful Enrique Pena Nieto in his bid to lead a return to power for his Institutional Revolutionary Party, known as the PRI.
The Green Party frequently allies with the PRI, which held Mexico's presidency without interruption from 1929 to 2000.
The Green Party said in a statement Saturday it will support Pena Nieto's candidacy in the July 2012 elections, though he isn't yet formally the PRI nominee.
The former governor of Mexico State leads polls on the 2012 race.
Green leaders said their support for Pena Nieto was unanimous, but would wait for legal formalities.
Primary races start in late December, with candidates registered by mid-March.
