Israeli police say they have obtained an international arrest warrant for two French citizens who fled Israel after killing a woman in a hit-and-run accident.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said a BMW rammed into a 25-year-old Israeli pedestrian over the weekend, killing her. The two suspects, the driver and the car's owner, fled Israel and are now in France, Rosenfeld said Monday.
Israeli police are working with France and Interpol to locate them and try them in Israel or France, he said.
The suspected driver, Claude Issac, told Israel TV that he and the car's owner, Arik Rubik, made a "big mistake." Speaking from an undisclosed location, he said he would not turn himself in.
"If I return to Israel today, I'd get 20 years in jail," Issac said.
