Crew inspects fire-damaged cruise ship

The crew of a Norwegian cruise ship that caught fire last week, killing two people, is inspecting the vessel and picking up belongings left behind by passengers as they were evacuated.

Herodd Widding, a spokesman for the Hurtigruten shipping line, tells the AP that crew members and police will go on board to recover items and distribute them to their owners.

He says the ship is no longer at risk of capsizing.

A fire in the engine room of MS Nordlys killed two crew members and forced the evacuation of 260 other people Thursday. Nine other crew were injured. All the passengers were evacuated safely into lifeboats or when the cruise ship reached the harbor of Aalesund, 230 miles (375 kilometers) northwest of the capital Oslo.
