South Korean maestro conducts NKorean orchestras

North Korea says a prominent South Korean maestro has conducted two orchestras in the North in a sign of easing tensions between the countries.

Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra chief Chung Myung-whun flew to North Korea on Monday to discuss musical programs for children there.

The North's official Korean Central News Agency said Wednesday that Chung watched and conducted performances of the State Symphony Orchestra and the Unhasu Orchestra.

It said Chung also met with composers and toured a children's center where students are trained in singing, dancing, taekwondo, calligraphy and drawing.

Chung doubles as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.

The visit comes as Seoul moves to improve ties. It recently allowed a religious delegation to visit the North.
