Chile: Allende's remains reburied after autopsy

The remains of former Chilean President Salvador Allende have been reburied in the capital of Santiago after an official autopsy confirmed he committed suicide during a military coup on Sept. 11, 1973.

The Allende family canceled plans for a more public reburial because Chile is continuing to search for the remains of 22 people killed in a plane crash last week.

The deposed president's daughter said a few words as her father's flag-draped coffin was returned to its crypt in Santiago's general cemetery Thursday.

A photo showing Sen. Isabel Allende and close family friends surrounding Allende's casket was published in Chile on Friday.
