British police said Thursday a 61-year-old man has been arrested over online threats to a Conservative Party lawmaker.
Police said the man was arrested in Gloucester in connection with an investigation into "malicious communication and threats made via email and a social networking site." The suspect remains in custody.
Earlier this week, lawmaker Louise Mensch _ a mother of three _ claimed on Twitter that she had contacted police about threats to her children over email.
"I don't bully easily, kids," she posted, adding that the threats had warned her to get off of Twitter.
Mensch is a frequent Twitter user, who recently drew the wrath of Piers Morgan on the microblogging site for implying at a parliamentary hearing that the CNN host had boasted in his book about phone hacking while he was a newspaper editor.
Mensch later apologized, saying she had misread an article about the issue.
