HK reporters decry security during China VP visit

Several hundred journalists in Hong Kong have marched to protest what they say was heavy-handed security that restricted their reporting during the visit of a Chinese official earlier this week.

About 300 reporters and photographers rallied Saturday against what they called the suppression of press freedom and freedom of expression during Vice Premier Li Keqiang's visit.

The journalists said the security presence was much heavier than it was during previous visits by officials from mainland China.

The group marched to police headquarters, where the photographers laid their cameras on the ground in protest.

The government has denied the accusations. Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China with its own political system and a high degree of autonomy.
