Inmate at troubled USVI prison faces drug charges

An inmate at a troubled prison in the U.S. Virgin Islands has been arrested after police said they found 48 small bags of marijuana on him along with two scales.

Police said in a statement Tuesday that they arrested 26-year-old Emmett Bramble after a routine search at Golden Grove prison in St. Croix. It was not clear if Bramble had an attorney.

Federal authorities have requested receivership of the prison citing dangerous and deplorable conditions. The government of the U.S. territory is fighting the request, saying it has been making improvements.

Last month, a 20-year-old inmate was fatally stabbed at the prison during a fight.
