Russia denies parole to partner of jailed ex-tycoon

VELSK, Russia (Reuters) - A Russian court denied parole Wednesday to Platon Lebedev, the business partner of jailed former oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky, keeping him in prison until the end of his sentence in 2016.

The parole hearing was seen as a chance for Russia to improve the burnished image of its legal system, which the Kremlin has blamed for undermining its investment climate.

Lebedev and Khodorkovsky, in prison since 2003, were sentenced to stay in jail until 2017 in a second trial in December, but the sentence was reduced by one year on appeal.
