Federal agents have arrested a former government official on homicide and abuse of authority charges tied to a day care center fire that killed 49 babies and toddlers in 2009.
The Attorney General's Office says Delia Botello was arrested Thursday in the border city of Nogales, across from Nogales, Arizona.
Botello was the regional coordinator of public day care centers when a June 5, 2009, fire spread from a neighboring warehouse into the ABC day care center in the city of Hermosillo.
Investigators say public officials may have ignored fire hazards while allowing the day care to operate.
The office said in a statement that Botello was transferred to a prison in Hermosillo, where a judge will decide whether to send her to trial.
