A French politician has been charged with rape and sexual assault.
A judicial official says Georges Tron, who had been detained for two days, is now under judicial control, meaning he must regularly report his whereabouts to authorities.
Tron, 53, resigned as a junior minister for civil service after allegations surfaced last month that foot massages he administered evolved into sexual assaults _ claims he denies.
The official said Thursday that Tron, who is mayor of Draveil outside Paris, was charged with "rape and sexual aggression in group by someone in authority" after two former female employees of his filed complaints. A deputy mayor also was charged.
The official wasn't authorized to speak publicly and couldn't be named.
