A senior Taiwan defense official says the island's authorities have arrested a Taiwanese man for spying for China.
Defense Ministry spokesman Luo Shou-he said Tuesday that the bust came after a military officer reported to his superior that the man, identified only as Lai, tried to obtain sensitive information from him.
Luo said Lai was recruited by Chinese intelligence while working in China. He said there was no actual leak of intelligence.
Local media have reported Lai was looking for information on Taiwan's Patriot air defense systems. He was arrested Monday.
Taiwan and China split amid civil war in 1949. Beijing still claims Taiwan as its own. Despite warming ties in recent years, the two sides still spy on each other.
