ROME (Reuters) - Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was heading for a heavy defeat on Monday in referendums on nuclear power, water privatization and trial immunity for government ministers, official figures showed.

With 83 percent of the vote counted, the turnout stood at around 57 percent on all four referendums, indicating the necessary quorum of over 50 percent would easily be reached.

With supporters of the motions to repeal Berlusconi-era legislation considered far more likely to turn out to vote than those opposed, they are expected to pass overwhelmingly.
