Nigeria's anti-corruption agency says its officers arrested the West African nation's outgoing House of Representatives speaker over fraud allegations.
Spokesman Femi Babafemi says officers arrested Dimeji Bankole on Sunday night at his home in Nigeria's capital of Abuja after the lawmaker resisted arrest for more than four hours.
Babafemi says Bankole will remain in custody to "answer questions on the numerous fraud allegations against him." The spokesman offered no specifics.
Bankole conceded defeat to an opposition party candidate in April's election, one of a number of powerful politicians who lost their positions in the oil-rich nation's freest and fairest election in its 12 years as a democracy.
