Moroccans march to protest death of demonstrator

Protesters have marched in Morocco's capital in anger at the death of a member of Morocco's main opposition Islamist group.

Police fanned out in force for the protest but did not intervene to break it up, as they have during recent demonstrations in this North African kingdom. At least 1,000 people took part in Sunday's protest.

Many protesters waved posters showing Kamal al-Amari, who died after being beaten at a pro-reform demonstration a week ago in the southern city of Safi. He was a member of the Justice and Charity movement, or Adl wal Ihsan.

A broad coalition of activist movements has been holding weekly demonstrations calling for constitutional reforms to lessen the power of Morocco's monarch, following uprisings elsewhere in the Arab world.
