Tunisia says Sarkozy proposed $40 billion Arab Spring aid

DEAUVILLE, France (Reuters) - Tunisian Finance Minister Jalloul Ayed said on Friday that French President Nicolas Sarkozy had proposed a $40 billion financial support package for Arab Spring nations at the G8 summit.

Ayed did not say which countries that aid would be earmarked for or over what time frame.

Group of Eight leaders meeting for their annual summit in the northern French seaside town of Deauville have pledged $20 billion in support for Egypt and Tunisia to help them rebuild their economies following popular revolts.
