President Barack Obama has raised a toast to Queen Elizabeth II and the vitality of the special relationship between the U.S. and Britain.
Speaking at a lavish banquet at Buckingham Palace, Obama on Tuesday said the queen is a living witness to the power of the alliance between the two countries. He thanked Britain for supporting U.S. efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan, and acknowledged the sacrifices the British people have endured in order to do so.
The Obamas are in London for a two-day state visit at the invitation of the queen. The palace says Obama is just the second U.S. president to be honored with a state visit by the queen.
