18 people injured in 2-train collision in Spain

Spain's rail authority says 18 people were slightly injured when a commuter train collided underground with an empty long-distance train in Barcelona.

RENFE said two carriages of a commuter train carrying 70 passengers derailed after colliding with the other train, which was stationary. Sixteen people were treated in nearby medical centers, mostly for bruises.

The accident occurred Thursday just before 10 a.m. (0800 GMT) as the commuter train began slowing down to stop in the Clot-Arago station in Barcelona city.
