Authorities acting on a U.S. extradition request have arrested a Dominican merengue singer on sex-trafficking charges, officials said Thursday.
Jose Altagracia de Leon Corcino, best known as "Franklin the Boss," is wanted in North Carolina on charges that he trafficked women for prostitution and recruited and hid a 14-year-old girl for the same purpose, the National Drug Control Agency said in a statement.
The agency did not say how many women were involved, when the trafficking allegedly occurred, or how long it might have lasted.
De Leon, 30, faces an extradition hearing before the Supreme Court, which is expected to issue a decision in a matter of weeks.
It is unclear if De Leon has an attorney. His publicist, Enrique Zayas, did not return a call for comment.
He was arrested on Wednesday near the capital, Santo Domingo.
