African leaders meet with Gadhafi

In a statement from Tripoli, the African Union says Moammar Gadhafi has assured the presidents of five African countries that he supports their efforts to bring about a cease-fire.

The A.U. committee met with Gadhafi Sunday in Libya's capital and travels to Benghazi, Libya Monday to meet Gadhafi's opposition. On the truce, the A.U. says Gadhafi endorsed efforts, "including the deployment of an effective and credible monitoring mechanism."

The A.U. committee on Libya is seeking an immediate cease-fire, the free delivery of humanitarian aid, the protection of foreigners in Libya, and to open talks between the rebels and the government.
