An opposition lawmaker in Ukraine is accusing the government of involvement in the disappearance of a Palestinian engineer who later turned up in an Israeli jail.
Dirar Abu Sisi vanished from a train in Ukraine Feb. 19, and surfaced in detention in Israel shortly after. Israel charged him this week with being a senior member of the militant group Hamas. Abu Sisi denies the charges.
Ukrainian authorities said they were not involved in the operation. The Palestinian is married to a Ukrainian and was in the country to apply for citizenship.
Lawmaker Hennadiy Moskal claimed Thursday that Interior Ministry agents took Abu Sisi off his train, transported him to Kiev airport and put him on a plane to Israel.
The ministry called the claims "irresponsible and untrue."
