BERLIN (Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Tuesday she could not judge whether seven older nuclear plants which she ordered closed last week would be reopened when a three-month moratorium expires in June.

She told a news conference that any further decisions over nuclear plant closures should happen as soon as possible and "not over five years."

Merkel added that she could not rule out the possibility that safety checks could affect the life spans of nuclear plants.
