BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said Friday parliament would be dissolved by the first week of May, paving the way for a general election that would then have to be held by early July.

Abhisit made the announcement after he met members of the Election Commission to discuss electoral regulations. He had previously said he planned to dissolve parliament by the middle of the year to clear the way for an early general election.
