Obama offers Japan any help needed after quake

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Friday he told Japan's Prime Minister Naota Kan that the United States stands ready to offer whatever help the country needs to cope with a massive earthquake.

Obama, at a news conference, also said his administration is closely monitoring the tsunami threat to the United States.
