The speaker of Jamaica's House of Representatives says a governing party lawmaker has resigned his seat, citing a problem with eligibility rules.
Speaker Delroy Chuck has released no further details on the resignation by Jamaica Labor Party legislator Everald Warmington.
Warmington's resignation announced Tuesday will likely set the stage for a by-election in his southwest St. Catherine parish district.
There have been four by-elections since 2007 involving governing party legislators who violated constitutional law by holding dual citizenship. The Jamaica Labor Party has successfully defended all four seats so far.
