A lawyer says a Pakistani court has set bail for an American construction contractor held for an expired visa.
Aaron Mark DeHaven won't be given his passport after posting the $23,500 bail, however, and still faces court hearings.
DeHaven's detention in the northwest city of Peshawar coincided with an uproar in Pakistan over an American CIA contractor's fatal shooting of two Pakistanis. The U.S. insists the shooter, Raymond Allen Davis, has diplomatic immunity from prosecution.
DeHaven is a 34-year-old West Virginian who is married to a Pakistani. He is believed to be affiliated with Catalyst Services, a construction company.
His lawyer, Ali Reza, confirmed the bail Monday. He insists DeHaven had tried to renew his visa.
