African artist brings exhibition to Israel

South African artist William Kentridge is bringing to Israel a large-scale exhibition that explores human migration, apartheid, colonialism and totalitarianism.

The exhibition features film, animation, sculpture, drawing and performance art.

Kentridge says the exhibit is not about Israel. But he says Israel and South Africa are facing "the question of how much we need to hang on to history to make sense of ourselves, and how much we need to forget things in order to move forward in the world."

He says dispossession and migration are particularly relevant to Israelis and Palestinians.

The Israel Museum is the last stop for the exhibition, after being displayed in New York, Paris and Vienna. The exhibition goes through June 18.
