A jury in the U.S. Virgin Islands has convicted a man in the killing of a law clerk from Wisconsin.
Auriel Frett was convicted of first degree murder in the October 2008 slaying of Gabriel Lerner. Jurors deliberated less than three hours before reaching the verdict Friday.
Prosecutors say the 24-year-old Frett and a co-defendant kidnapped and killed Lerner after he offered them a ride in St. Thomas.
Lerner was a 27-year-old from the Milwaukee area and worked as a clerk for a Superior Court judge on the island.
The co-defendant who was 17 at the time of the murder pleaded guilty last year. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
