Witness: Family of 5 killed in central Nigeria

A woman says five of her relatives were shot dead in central Nigeria and that she survived with her husband and son by hiding behind a metal door.

Gloria Ezekiel Dagut told The Associated Press on Monday that gunmen attacked her home on the outskirts of Jos Sunday night.

Dagut says they killed her husband's mother, his three adult brothers and his adult sister.

She said she lay on the floor of her bedroom beside her husband and their son.

She says more than 10 attackers dressed in black shot the door many times but did not get through.

Jos is the epicenter of religious violence in Nigeria's "middle belt," where dozens of ethnic groups vie for control of fertile lands. Politics, jobs and land often motivate violence that falls along religious lines.
