EU police in Kosovo charge 5 for organ trafficking

The European Union police in Kosovo say five people, including a former senior official, have been charged with international trafficking of human organs and organized crime.

Karin Limdal, the spokesman for EU's rule of law mission, says doctors and a senior health ministry official are among those charged with the removal of kidneys for international donors and receivers. No other details were given and the identity of the suspects was not made public.

Investigators closed down a private health clinic where the doctors worked as part of the initial investigation in 2008. They found at the time that a Turkish man had sold his kidney to an Israeli recipient.
