Czech officials say police have seized chemicals made from a nuclear material and detained a suspect who illegally held them in a house.
Michal Merxbauer of the Czech nuclear watchdog says initial tests confirmed the discovery of uranyl chloride among chemicals made from depleted uranium. He says authorities should be able to trace its origin.
Merxbauer said Tuesday the amount of the powdery material was too small to cause damage but that his office will inform the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna.
Police said a 45-year-old man who had the materials in the house in the village of Bela nad Svitavou, 200 kilometers (125 miles) east of Prague, has been detained and could be charged with illegal possession of nuclear material.
