Morocco's chief military doctor says the president of Guinea is doing fine after surgery following an assassination attempt.

Brig. Gen. Ali Abrouq, the royal armed forces health inspector, says in a statement that Capt. Moussa "Dadis" Camara underwent surgery for head trauma shortly after being airlifted to Morocco on Friday.

Camara was airlifted to Rabat after the head of his presidential guard opened fire on him following an altercation.

Abrouq said in the statement carried Sunday by the official MAP news agency that "the follow-up (to the surgery) is favorable."

Abrouq says "the current state of health of President Camara inspires no worries."
