ATLANTA (AP) — A Georgia State University soccer player suspended from the team after posting a racial slur on social media says she's remorseful and will have to live with the mistake for the rest of her life.

Natalia Martinez tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that she's not a racist, and used the word to tell friends that she had passed an exam. She said the message was later taken out of context.

Martinez's mother, Daniela, said she was upset with her daughter for writing the word but told the newspaper that young people use the term as a new form of slang.

Georgia State became aware of the post last month, and suspended her from the team. Before she could meet with administrators, Martinez decided to leave school and return home to Florida.
