WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States has charged two Romanian nationals for allegedly hacking the Washington police department's surveillance cameras as part of a ransomware scheme, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement on Thursday.

The department said the two individuals, Mihai Alexandru Isvanca and Eveline Cismaru, were arrested in Romania on Dec. 15 over the incident, which it said compromised Washington's Metropolitan Police Department camera computers between Jan. 9 and Jan. 12, days before the inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
